PCU Centreville Wins $10k Award for Carleton North Imaginary Library

Concentra, one of our partnered organizations, runs an Empowering Your Community campaign in which credit unions from all over Canada are invited to participate and share their passion for community by submitting a project for consideration to receive an award.

This year they received 93 applications from credit unions across Canada, and their employee selection committee has chosen 15 credit unions to receive a $10,000 award. Concentra has also chosen two credit union projects to each receive a $25,000 award, for a total commitment of $200,000 in 2017. Click here to access the complete article.

We are proud to announce that our Centreville branch was a recipient of a $10,000 award for their submission on Carleton North Imagination Library (CNIL). The Imagination library is a family literacy program that provides pre-school children with a new, age appropriate book every month, mailed directly to their home…free of charge! Now of course, there is a lot that goes on in behind-the-scenes that makes this a possibility – a main aspect of it being the dedicated volunteers that help make this possible.

When presenting the award to the CNIL, Suzie Smith (Financial Service Officer) said that “by providing children with a new book to read each month, CNIL is helping to educate our pre-schoolers which in turn give them a head start on learning before entering the school system. Early reading skills lead to children being more capable to learn on their own. This empowers them to teach themselves, and grow more self-sufficient, skilled, dynamic and innovative.”

As CNIL was presented with the grand news, they couldn’t help contain their emotions. Check out the heartfelt video here.
